A letter or phone call from President Carter would be epic. Happy birthday Kim!
Dear President Carter,
Your dedication to public service and improving the lives of people from all around the world inspires me. You and Mrs. Carter are fantastic role models for those in public service as well as regular citizens like myself who strive to build stronger communities.
I’m writing to you today to ask a favor. A dear friend of mine, Kim Perry, is celebrating her 45th birthday on August 1st. She is quite possibly your biggest fan – excluding your family of course. She is the Executive Director of DC Vote, a nonprofit dedicated to securing democratic equality for the citizens of the District of Columbia. I know your public service has influenced her to follow the path she has chosen and a birthday greeting from you would mean the world to her. I hope that you will consider this request. Her contact details are:
With respect and admiration,

Last night the Nationals started a three-day series with the Atlanta Braves. The Nats have been slumping, but one of the players who has been producing both in the batter’s box as well as on the field is utility infielder Yunel Escobar who the Nats picked up in a crazy multi-team deal that sent pitcher Tyler Clippard to Oakland.
In the fifth inning Escobar had to leave the game after suffering an injury due to an aggressive slide by Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons into third base. I thought I would send the Cuban-born ballplayer a letter and wish him a speedy recovery.
Welcome to Washington! We are very happy to have someone with your talent on our team.

I’m writing you to wish you a speedy recovery – I was watching the game last night when Simmons hurt you. I hope that it’s nothing serious and that you can get back to the field in the coming days.
P.S. Also, thanks for being a part of the deal that sent Tyler Clippard to Oakland – he drove me nuts!
Cheers to Glen’s on their 2nd Anniversary!
Two years ago today Glen’s Garden Market opened up in my neighborhood. The space was the previous home of the “Secret Safeway” – named for the fact that it was tucked away and nobody knew it was there. Two years later Glen’s seems to have been here for decades. Strange.
Danielle, who hails from a family of grocers, left her job on Capitol Hill doing environmental policy work, to open a market that focuses on products sourced from within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. It’s a big change from the halls of congress – but here Danielle gets to play a pivotal role in changing consumer behavior at dining room table.
I’m thrilled to share today’s letter with Danielle which I wrote here at Glen’s last night – happy two-year anniversary neighbor!
Congratulations on your second anniversary. As someone who lives just two blocks away I was extremely happy when Glen’s came to the neighborhood. It’s only been two years but Glen’s seems like it’s been there forever. It doesn’t seem to matter when I stop in there is always a healthy amount of customers either shopping for fresh produce from local farms, enjoying a cup of coffee or delicious pint of local beer (love that they’re $4!) or picking up one of your mouth-watering sandwiches – I usually get the Billy’s Bison.
I hope I can join you on Saturday – I see you’ll be celebrating your anniversary and Earth Day – I’ll toast to that!
P.S. I also very much appreciated your support of Street Sense in our 2013 Gala – you were very generous. Thanks again.

Life is funny, isn’t it. For some reason I decided to write John Wilson yesterday. I had no idea that today was his wife’s birthday, but when I saw that this morning I knew I needed to drop her a letter today. After all, John gets plenty of attention, now it’s time to focus on Jami!
Happy birthday Jami,
I woke up this morning and saw that it was your birthday and thought, today is Jami’s day. I thought it was incredibly coincidental that I decided to write John yesterday and then find out today was your birthday. It was meant to be. I miss you and Parker – OK, I miss John too. I enjoyed very much visiting with you when I was there in in 2012. I hope that we can all get together soon.
Have a great birthday.
P.S. I love the “attic lounge” – that space looks totally different!

Another note to one of the companies I got to work with recently on social media narrative. Lianne is the GM and Owner of Nido’s Ristorante in Frederick, MD. I think I ate there many years ago and it’s possible too because it’s been around for almost 30 years – longer than any other downtown restaurant in this charming business district.
Lianne took over the restaurant last year. Like any new owner, she has creative ideas but is very sensitive to the fact that this trattoria has been a long history. This is a place where the chef has been there since it opened and two of the servers have nearly 20 years under their aprons – very impressive.
My only disappointment is that I visited Nido’s while it was closed. The next time, I’ll make sure to be there for dinner!
Another handcrafted liner I put into this envelope.
It was great to meet you last month, learn about Nido’s, and discuss your narrative for social media. I hope our meeting was helpful. I thought I would check in and see how things were going. If I can ever be of any assistance, please let me know.
P.S. I look forward to dining at Nido’s next time I am in Frederick!
